Ellie Atayee-Bennett

SECRETARY

Ellie Atayee-Bennett is a Lecturer in Sociology at Southampton Solent University. Prior to starting this position, she completed her PhD at the University of Southampton exploring religion, culture, food, and ethical lifestyles.

Ellie is also a committed social and environmental advocate. With a background rooted in rigorous academic research, Ellie has cultivated a career that bridges scholarly enquiry with meaningful public engagement. Her academic journey has encompassed interdisciplinary studies in social sciences and humanities, and it informs her various advocacy activities.

Ellie’s research has been shaped by a deep commitment to amplifying voices that are often marginalised or misrepresented in mainstream discourse. Her work considers how cultural heritage and meanings inform collective identity and belonging—particularly within British faith communities.

Alongside her academic pursuits, Ellie actively participates in community-based projects that challenge structural inequalities and support creative forms of expression. She values the role of storytelling, grassroots organising, and education in shaping inclusive futures.

As part of the Qatrah community, Ellie brings both critical insight and a strong belief in the power of collaboration. She is interested in creating spaces where diverse perspectives can flourish, and where cultural expression becomes a catalyst for connection, resistance, and renewal.
